AIA 2030 John Lynn

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." This is a quote that stood out to me in John Lynn's speech about the 2030 challenge. John Lynn made me think about architecture of the future and how architecture effects the world around us. He compared humans to a storm in the fact that we create transformation and construction/destruction. These are only parts of the storm. As a whole, future architects can make a conscientious effort to benefit our planet from the destruction of global warming.
When i had first walked into the lecture i didn't know what the 2030 challenge was. I now know that it is a gradual step by architects and builders to make buildings that will not harm the environment or decrease the carbon footprint on the earth. This goal should be achieved in small increments; by setting small goals to finally reach the large goal in 2030. By now, we should have stopped the carbon footprint by 50%, by 2010 60%, by 2020 80%, and finally by 2030, the problem should be solved. It is also important that these buildings have sustainability; which could mean longevity, energy conservation, withstanding outside environments etc... All of this will help make the world that i will be designing a less damaged place to live.
